A headshot of Steven.

Steven Yee is an urban planner based in Portland, Oregon.

Steven’s mission is to curate sustainable urban development through collaborative design, green infrastructure, communicative site planning, and mindful placemaking. He believes that urban design yields multi-benefit solutions for individual and public well-being, contributing solutions to housing, resilience, and economic vitality. Steven’s core strengths include project management, strategic planning, and visual communication.

Raised in California, Steven questioned the prominent urban sprawl, housing disparity, and lack of modern infrastructure. He found his calling in urban planning after participating in local public planning workshops, in Irvine, California. Transitioning from his studies in economics, business, and digital systems, Steven started his Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) at Portland State University (PSU) in Fall of 2024. As a MURP, Steven has developed a specialization in urban design and rounded core planning skills like GIS, visual communications, statistical analysis, and community engagement.

Steven now resides in evergreen Portland, Oregon with his partner and bunny. When not working, you can find Steven practicing basketball or enjoying co-op games with friends.

Goals

Steven’s goal is to leverage his community-building experience with strategy, green building practices, and economic and environmental analysis to curate sustainable urban development. By integrating urban design principles with a deep understanding of social and environmental factors, Steven aspires to contribute to the creation of vibrant, resilient, and equitable cities.

To accomplish this, Steven hopes to acquire relevant internship and job experiences that expand his repertoire of planning skills. He is pursuing a LEED Green Associate certification to complement his urban design specialization. After completing his graduate studies at Portland State University, he will pursue an AICP and PMP certification.

He is excited to continue building partnerships with Oregon municipalities and local community-based organizations, bridging planning, architecture, and public policy partners.
